Leading with Cultural Intelligence: The real secret to success

1. After reading these two books for class (Drive and Leading with Cultural Intelligence), I got to understand the idea and the concept of both readings. The book, Drive, it really focused more on motivational approach and how you can conduct yourself in different settings. The other book, Leading with Cultural Intelligence, it is more of a self-investigation looking at how you interact with other people, culturally. The most interesting ideas about the book Drive is that, I feel the book is somewhat light on researched…and heavy in anecdotes. After reading more on the book (Drive and Leading with Cultural Intelligence), this subject and the concept was a great reminder for me. Also, learning how effective the concept of the book…and to use it in running a business. This book does really challenges you in so many ways, per se in intercultural communication. One of the most important abilities for people to utilize…is to “know your audience” and “choice of words.” These nuances of un...

Drive: The surprising truth about what motivates us

Drive: The surprising truth about what motivates us Understanding In the first chapter, it wanted me to predict the future. It then wanted me to imagine it was 1995. I am sitting down with an economist, a very successful professor with a Ph.D. in economics. I highlighted the term “future” and utilized this word to really think critically about this first chapter. I feel like humans were born into this world with set protocols. This protocol is to understand the world around us and how it works. It is like we were born into this world with “intuitive truths,” and this truth can be from a perspective upbringing and cultural background. This can be considered as the “Operating system.” We do not think a lot about this so call, “operating system” and the concept behind it. In this case…thinking comes when it is too big to control! Computer are just like societies, we have an operating system. We have assumptions and protocols but, human tends to destroy it! Humans act and run ...

 "I Know" versus "I Believe"

The word "Know" can mean to have, to understand, and even to have learned. The word "Believe" is to have confidence in a perspective of self truth, the existence, the reliability of something... But knowing that there is absolute no certainty that you are right. The fact that you "Believe" in something so divine is your perspective, which means that you are right in a intuitive self-truth and or your upbringing. "I Know" versus "I B elieve" are two terms that is very critical for people to understand. The phrase, "I know my church is the only real church" is telling someone different that they are wrong. Stating, "I Believe" is a more respectful intention in terms of "Self-truth." This subject emphasizes that a individual has confidence in their self truth, knowing that there is no proof that his or her perspective is right... But they are right because it's a self-truth. The word "know" was d...

My Imperfections: Before They (Younger-siblings) Hike up The Mountain of LIFE

It is really irritating when people bring-out/up your imperfections from the past! Throughout my time, I have learned from my mistakes and I try to utilize that (my mistakes) to show/give positive influence/example to family and friends around me. It is definitely better to prevent something from happening (getting into trouble, etc.) than curing it later. Why let younger siblings, friends, etc. go through the same scenario? You could simply motivate and teach them (set good example), before they hike up the mountain of LIFE! At the end of the day, their own outcome in life is based on the decisions they made -- but as someone who set an example or taught a lesson, you know you gave them a solid path. Therefore; before calling someone out on their imperfections from the past … analysis your own imperfections and see if you have played a positive impact on your own sibling’s and family’s life!

Two-types of College Experience/Life

I strongly believe that there are two-types of "College Experience/Life." The first is one that understands self upbringings, sacrifices, and the nuances of struggles. The second college experiences/life, is one that can not wait to leave home to be free from authority (parents). These students have the choice to consider and or ignore the ideological, motivational, and cultural approaches of their self upbringings

Reactions to President Obama’s Speech on the Results of the Election on Facebook: "We Are Americans First"

Themes Not a lot of people were happy regarding the presidential election. People thought Secretary Clinton would win the election, but Trump won the race. President Obama, gave his speech on the results of the election. The people’s reaction to his speech caught my attention, because of the amount of emotions that were shared through the people’s comments on Facebook.  In analyzing these reactions/comments on Facebook from President Obama’s speech on the results of the election, I was able to categorize the comments that were made into three main categories. The three main categories are: Ideological, Motivational, and Theological Approach. There were a lot of emotion that people shown through their comments on the video. My theory is about the way that leadership requires more than being loyal to a party or a person. Leadership is not determined by a specific idea or party. It comes from wanting to do what is best for the people, by understanding cultures, thoughts, and be...

Cultural Hierarchy in Disney’s Moana: Applying Grid-group Cultural Theory

Moana is a Disney film that came out on Thanksgiving Day 2016. Moana is Disney’s first Polynesian princess and first animation with all actors of Polynesian decent. The reason why this film is important is because Disney has a huge voice in pop culture. In today’s society, the media influences ideas, beliefs, and actions of the public. In Moana it shows Surface Culture which is what people can see and perceive from others as the following: cultural attires, historical contributions, and outward displays of behavior and identity, etc. (Pratt-Johnson, 2006). Deep Culture is the intuitive truths reflected in the Surface Culture that people do not know and understand because they cannot see it physically. The film takes the audience to a time when there was only the ocean (Moana). Te Fiti’s heart was stolen by Maui, who is a Demi-god that traveled the ocean. When Maui stole the heart of Te Fiti, the island began to die and was covered by darkness. While Maui was trying to escape, the l...
