My First Post: When I Think, I Write.

Greetings all,

I would like to welcome you to my blog/ journal titled, "When I Think, I Write."

As a competitive and ambitious Tongan (Pacific Islander), I welcome new challenges. I strongly agree with the Karate Kid's quote, "Ambition without knowledge is like a boat on dry-land." I always think creatively and I am an innovative problem solver with strong work ethic to exceed expectations. I have a massive amount of experiences in Pacific Island cultures, recruiting, retention, US territories and international affairs, dignitary services, and public relations. I hope you guys enjoy my blog/journal and stay blessed always!

Cultural Hierarchy in Disney’s Moana: Applying Grid-group Cultural Theory

Moana is a Disney film that came out on Thanksgiving Day 2016. Moana is Disney’s first Polynesian princess and first animation with all actors of Polynesian decent. The reason why this film is important is because Disney has a huge voice in pop culture. In today’s society, the media influences ideas, beliefs, and actions of the public. In Moana it shows Surface Culture which is what people can see and perceive from others as the following: cultural attires, historical contributions, and outward displays of behavior and identity, etc. (Pratt-Johnson, 2006). Deep Culture is the intuitive truths reflected in the Surface Culture that people do not know and understand because they cannot see it physically. The film takes the audience to a time when there was only the ocean (Moana). Te Fiti’s heart was stolen by Maui, who is a Demi-god that traveled the ocean. My Imperfections: Before They (Younger-siblings) Hike up The Mountain of LIFE

It is really irritating when people bring-out/up your imperfections from the past! Throughout my time, I have learned from my mistakes and I try to utilize that (my mistakes) to show/give positive influence/example to family and friends around me. It is definitely better to prevent something from happening (getting into trouble, etc.) than curing it later. Why let younger siblings, friends, etc. go through the same scenario? You could simply motivate and teach them (set good example), before they hike up the mountain of LIFE! At the end of the day, their own outcome in life is based on the decisions they made -- but as someone who set an example or taught a lesson, you know you gave them a solid path. Therefore; before calling someone out on their imperfections from the past … analysis your own imperfections and see if you have played a positive impact on your own sibling’s and family’s life!

"I Know" versus "I Believe"

The word "Know" can mean to have, to understand, and even to have learned. The word "Believe" is to have confidence in a perspective of self truth, the existence, the reliability of something... But knowing that there is absolute no certainty that you are right. The fact that you "Believe" in something so divine is your perspective, which means that you are right in a intuitive self-truth and or your upbringing. "I Know" versus "I B elieve" are two terms that is very critical for people to understand. The phrase, "I know my church is the only real church" is telling someone different that they are wrong. Stating, "I Believe" is a more respectful intention in terms of "Self-truth." This subject emphasizes that a individual has confidence in their self truth, knowing that there is no proof that his or her perspective is right... But they are right because it's a self-truth.
